So I'm seeing this more and more and it's a good thing. Organizations getting serious about their Content Marketing Strategy and hiring for someone to have an overview on all content. For example I caught this on the SEOMoz blog the other day:
Now not every company needs an "Oracle", and I worry that many are making this seem over complicated. We are kind of good at this in our company and run all of our content with a great kid named Max who's one year out of school and this is only a sliver of what we task him with. Keep in mind we have about 30 bloggers, email marketing, Twitter & Facebook.
Most companies can be really successful with simply assigning someone to add this to their responsibilities.
What's key here is the recognition that in relatively short period of time we have permitted in our marketing departments to become siloed. I can remember not so long ago when the "web guy" did it all. Now the SEO people don't even talk to the Email people who in turn don't know what the Social people are up to. And the print folks? Fuggetaboutit!
Someone needs to be tasked with an overall view of content if for nothing else Brand consistency. But it goes beyond that. We work with a client for example that invests a ton in Newspaper inserts. We had to show them that those advertisements drove a ton of related search activity. (doubt me? Next Sunday check out Google trends for the keywords related to the products you see advertised in your Sunday paper) So what's the online content strategy when you know that this print ad is going to drop in 4 weeks? What are we doing in our Email Marketing, on Facebook and most importantly for our SEO. This all needs to be coordinated doesn't it.
Don't make this tough but let's make sure we cover it. If I was 22 and just starting out this spring from College.....I'd be advertising myself as a Content Marketer.
Why Everyone Needs A Marketing Oracle For Their Content Platform
SEOmoz are currently hiring for a Marketing Oracle. What is this position? Simply put, it's someone to help steer the SEOmoz content vision. Think about this question - "how would you innovate the SEOmoz content model?". We're looking for someone who's excited about tackling that question.
